Babe Bergman
“The Purple Lady”
Gloretta “Babe” Louise Bergman, the daughter of Sidney and Emma (Dobereiner) Covert, was born on June 2, 1926 in Fulda, MN. She grew up in Fulda and attended school, graduating from the Fulda High School in 1944. Babe was united in marriage to Reuben Bergman on September 16, 1945 in Fulda. After their marriage they lived on the Bergman family farm. Babe worked as a telephone operator and later as a secretary for Ernie Davis at the insurance office. After their retirement from farming in 1977 they moved into Fulda. Babe remained in their home after Reuben passed away in April of 1988. She moved to the Maple Lawn Campus in 2019. Babe passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at the Maple Lawn Senior Care in Fulda at the age of 97. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Fulda. Babe enjoyed sewing, shopping, playing cards, socializing and cooking and baking and earned a purple ribbon for her lemon bread at the county fair.
Survivors include her daughter, Jan (Larry) Ochsendorf of New Prague, MN; son, Dale (Barb) Bergman of Fulda, MN; 4 grandchildren, Shelly, Nick, Tom and Mitch; 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter, 3 brothers, Lester Kirkul, John and Russell Covert and sister, Marjorie Highum.
Funeral Services
First Presbyterian Church Fulda, MN at 11:30 AM on Saturday, May 4, 2024 with Pastor Rollin Haynes officiating. The organist is Norma Meyeraan.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday, May 4, 2024. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda is assisting the family with arrangements.
